Dohar Upazila Association USA Hosts Festive Annual Picnic in New York

The Dohar Upazila Association USA Inc. held its annual picnic on June 29 at Hempstead Lake State Park, New York, turning the venue into a festive gathering spot for the Bangladeshi community. The event drew attendees not only from Dohar but also from other parts of Dhaka and beyond, including leaders from various district associations and the wider Bangladeshi diaspora.
The day-long celebration began with breakfast, followed by a series of lively sports competitions for both children and adults. A friendly football match between teams representing Abahani and Mohammedan ended in an exciting 2-2 draw, adding to the energy of the event.
Attendees were treated to traditional Bengali cuisine at lunch, while popular Bangladeshi artists based in New York entertained the crowd with cultural performances. Notable guests presented awards to winners of various competitions and honored community members with crests.
A highlight of the day was the raffle draw, which featured ten attractive prizes, including a gold set. The crowd responded with cheers and excitement during the draw, making it one of the most engaging segments of the event.
The brief ceremony was presided over by the association’s president Dulal Behedur and conducted by general secretary Mostafa Kamal Mukul. Notable speakers included BNP central executive member and community activist Gias Ahmed, advisory council members Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Sheikh Salahuddin Ahmed Khokon, Abdur Razzak Anwar, and Alomgir Bhuiyan, along with Dhaka District Association’s general secretary Aminul Islam Swapon and joint secretary Dewan Kawsar.
Other speakers throughout the day included community activists Nurul Azim, Tarek Hasan Khan, Ahsan Habib, and Tofael Ahmed.
The event was coordinated by convener Shahinur Rahman Biplob, chief patron Asiya Akter, and secretary Rabiul Alam.
At the end, President Dulal Behedur thanked everyone for their presence and support in making the day memorable and formally concluded the event with hopes for an even brighter future.
